Spider-Badger

Here's the first official shot of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. I like it. Comments?

  1. Nerds across the internet are having wars over this very picture right now...
Anyway, without being able to see too much of it here, I guess I like it pretty well. I've always kind of secretly hoped they might ditch the red-and-blue, but it's so iconic there's no chance of that. Hell, I'd probably miss it too. But I like the styling around the gloves, very insectoid, and the absence of the belt gives the whole thing a leaner look. Really, that's my favorite part of it, the slim swimmer's-build look of it. I always liked Steve Ditko's old skinny Spider-Man; most old comic artists tended to emphasize his strength by making him bulky, but this look emphasizes the character's agility, which is really what makes the character extraordinary (and visually interesting). Mostly it's just a good sign to me that they were willing to alter the costume. I always appreciate when adaptations are a bit more adventurous and less dogmatic, though not so off the wall that you end up with Turn Off the Dark.
