Yes, I'm talking about Tron: Legacy.
I don't expect it to be nominated for best picture, or best director, because that's asking too much.
Have you heard the score for Tron: Legacy yet? Fucking awesome. Amazing. Phenomenal. It deserved to be nominated.
Here's the real travesty though. Tron: Legacy was NOT nominated for Visual Effects. The whole film was a spectacular special effect. Special effects are what make the viewer believe they're on the grid. What did get nominated for Visual Effects: Here we go:
- Alice in Wonderland: I'd say the costuming deserves a nod, but the visual effects? This movie didn't do anything that Tron didn't do more of, or better of.
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1: Good visual effects. I'd leave this one on the list.
- Hereafter: Don't know because I didn't see it, but you can't tell me it has better visual effects than the 90+ minutes of special effects that Disney worked on for 2 years?
- Inception: The visual effects scenes are done exceptionally well here. I'd leave this on the list too.
- Iron Man 2: Really? What did this film do so well that a dozen other action films don't do every year?
Another thing I'm thinking about while I'm wrapping this up: How can a film like Inception or Toy Story 3 have a nomination for Best Picture if it doesn't have nominations for Best Director, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actor, or Best Supporting Actress? If the Academy doesn't think it qualifies for ANY of those, how can it be best overall?
